As Small Business Saturday rolls around, I find myself reflecting on the journey of Cake Kernels—a path marked by challenges, growth, and resilience. It’s a story I hold close to my heart, and I’m excited to share it with you.
**How It All Began**
Cake Kernels was born during one of the toughest periods of my life. I was grieving the loss of my oldest son and trying to push forward with my online bakery. Then came a Christmas market that changed everything. While there, I noticed many bakers offering popcorn, and it sparked an idea.
I decided to try my hand at caramel popcorn by taking a class, and it was an instant hit! That initial success inspired me to dive deeper. I took more classes, sought advice, and explored what it would mean to turn popcorn into something special. With the support of my incredible business coach, Cyd, and her partner, we developed the concept for Cake Kernels: *Sweet Inspired!*
**Starting From Scratch**
Now, let me be honest—Cake Kernels wasn’t the first company to make sweet popcorn. But I knew our product needed to stand out. Along the way, I encountered a bump in the road when someone whose classes I’d taken and who had given me advice claimed that my recipes were based on theirs. That moment was a turning point.
Rather than dwelling on the challenge, I decided to start fresh. I threw out my old recipes, did deep research, and worked tirelessly to create something truly original. With Cyd’s creative ideas and my determination, we developed flavors that were uniquely Cake Kernels.

At Cake Kernels, we do popcorn differently. We don’t rely on fancy equipment or shortcuts with quick cooking times. Each batch is handcrafted with care and attention to detail, ensuring it’s perfected every single time. That’s what makes our popcorn stand out—it’s made with love and dedication.

This journey hasn’t been without its challenges. From launching at a holiday market to navigating drama in the popcorn world (yes, there’s popcorn-world drama! 😂), being featured on a popular podcast, making over $6,000 in Christmas sales in 2019,, and now regrouping to relaunch—it’s been a wild ride. I almost forgot a broken ankle as well.
**A Support System Like No Other**
